Bored To Creative

Nature's 5 -Step Process for Creativity

Boredom is a sign that you can do more.

You've heard the saying: “ Necessity is the mother of all innovation”

But I say to you: Boredom is the source of all creativity.

What exactly is boredom?

According to dictionary.cambridge.com:

Boredom is the state of feeling tired and unhappy because something is not interesting or because you have nothing to do.

Now you need to recognize two key points:

  1. Not interesting

  2. Nothing to do

Without these two factors your mind will never wander into imagination.

Creativity stems from articulate imagination

Imagination can only be clear in a mind that gives it room to be- a.k.a a bored mind that needs to be entertained.

But how exactly do you go from bored to creative?

This occurs in 5 steps:

When you allow yourself to be bored, your mind wanders

At times like this so many questions fill up your mind.

Most times you won't easily find the answers to such questions

This makes you curious.

The curiosity turns you into a researcher.

You start looking for as much information as you can to quench the curiosity

If you stick to this, you will eventually find your answer, or at least develop a theory that could be a potential answer.

In order to prove this “answer” to yourself, you will apply what you've learnt from all your hours of research.

Now depending on how you express yourself, this could be in form of a painting, a photograph, a scientific theory, an article etc

It could come in many forms, but the end result is creativity.

The point is that you allowed your mind to be free enough to ask the important questions.

This is something our generation lacks.

Our minds are so saturated with different types of content from social media that we don't even have the time to be bored.

There's a reason why 90% of social media users are consumers and only 10% create.

This is simply because only a few people realize the importance of spending time with their own thoughts.

Remember, all things are created twice.

In imagination and in the physical.

Next week I will discuss some techniques that help me go from bored to creative

And if you struggle with coming up with ideas then you won't want to miss that next email/ post.
