P.A.S: THE ONLY WRITING FRAMEWORK YOU'LL EVER NEED
The biggest struggle in writing, is keeping your readers engaged and interested while reading your work,
Every writer knows this.
Afterall if your readers lose interest, they stop reading.
Attention has become scarce.
And like all scarce commodities, it is now extremely valuable.
With so many things vying for your attention every minute of the day
It has become important to learn how to grab and keep the attention of your readers.
And not just that
But to also direct their attention to your desired result.
To solve this problem,
So many frameworks have been created
Today,
We talk about the only one you'll need if your goal is to write engaging content.
But before that,
Let's talk about what frameworks actually are….
NB: Please note that when I say writing, from my own experience I'm referring to copywriting and content writing.
WHAT ARE FRAMEWORKS IN WRITING?
You know how builders have blueprints?
Or how pirates have maps?
Yeah.
Frameworks are like that in writing.
They show you the direction your writing should take
Especially if there's an end goal in mind( to sell, to educate or to entertain).
There are a lot of frameworks
And new ones keep popping up everyday.
However,
There's one that all great writers still use and it's called P.A.S.
THE P.A.S FRAMEWORK
The P.A.S framework is the storytelling framework of Copywriting.
It stands for:
P - Problem
A - Agitate
S - Solution.
Don't worry,
I'll explain each part in detail 😄
PROBLEM:
Here you reveal the problem of your readers.
Their painpoints. Things that make them not sleep at night.
You must be very precise when doing this, because the aim is to make your readers say “this is speaking to me”
They must see themselves in your story
They must be able to relate.
If not, you've lost them.
AGITATE:
At this stage, you keep on flogging on the problem.
You amplify it
Create more emotional illustrations and express how this problem is ruining your readers' lives.
Make them get angry, feel sad or get frustrated at their situation.
Make them feel something. Anything.
SOLUTION:
Now, you present them with a solution.
This is where the Knight saves the pretty Princess in fairytales
Or where Jean Claude Van Damme kicks the villain in the face (as a villain now I'm upset)
We're not talking about fiction here
But you get the point.
You present your solution as the holy grail.
You make sure that they see the solution you offer as the best one that fits their problem.
WHERE TO USE P.A.S
The P.A.S framework is best used in 2 situations.
To educate
To sell.
It is a Copywriting framework and we all know that copywriting involves persuasion.
So this framework is better used when you need to persuade a reader to take an action.
Examples of where to use P.A.S:
Landing pages
Social media posts
Blog posts
Emails
It is basically a cheat code for content marketing.
